A GUIDE TO YOUR IDEAL MOUNTAIN GETAWAY
The beauty of a vacation in the mountains – aside from the obvious, you know, beauty – is the sheer variety of ways to spend your days.
With so many paths from which to choose, both on the ski slopes and off, it’s easy to create a getaway unlike any other.
For some, a ski vacation is just that: skiing, skiing, and more skiing. Others prefer a distinctive blend of ski and après-ski, with equal time given to adventure and relaxation.
And some – you know who you are – are more than happy to spend their time at altitude breathing in the fresh, clean air while taking in the sights.
Here are some tips for how to make your next trip to the mountains your best trip.
Preparation is key to going all-in on the slopes.
First and foremost, be sure your fitness is up to the challenge; get in some cardio and leg work in the weeks leading up to your trip. Buy your lift tickets ahead of time, too, so you can skip the ticket window and head straight to the slopes.
Get a good night’s sleep and a filling breakfast before heading to the mountain – make it a goal to get one of the first seats on the lift!
Dress in layers so you can stay comfortable in changing conditions and take frequent breaks to warm your mitts (and your soul) with a cup of hot coffee or cocoa. And get the most out of your day by booking a mountain guide – you get a tour of the slopes from a local expert, plus tips on the best ways to improve your skills.

In order to get the most from your precious time on the slopes, you’ve got to get up early and take advantage of the best, freshest snow.
The sight of a full mountain of freshly fallen powder, just waiting to be explored, is hard to beat.
Consider staying at one of our ski-in-ski-out properties like The Grand Summit Hotel. You’ll get more time carving and less time commuting, plus it’s easy to pop inside to grab some water or a snack between turns on the lift.
After a handful of runs, savor a long lunch at one of the many on-mountain dining destinations, such as Miner’s Camp in Park City.
Take in the gorgeous views, and maybe even sneak out for another run (or several) before calling it a day.
Maybe you’re feeling wiped out after a long day yesterday on the slopes – or maybe you’re along for the trip, but aren’t as passionate about skiing as the rest of the group.
Whatever your reasons there are plenty of things for you during this trip, too. Get a massage at the spa, such as the Park City Spa & Health Club, or relax the afternoon away at the health club, pool, hot tubs, sauna, and steam room.
Stroll from storefront to storefront – with the occasional stop for a sip of something warm at a café – in the village.
Or cozy up with a good book and a cocktail by a firepit. Read more about your options with our recommendations on the top ways to relax.
