Tahoe U.S. Forest Service information

Together We're Better

Operated under permit on the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, National Forest lands.

The Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit lies within a unique geologic basin. Located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the Lake Tahoe Basin encompasses over 150, 000 acres of National Forest lands.

The USDA Forest Service established the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit in 1973. The LTBMU was created from portions of three existing National Forests, forming a single "management unit." This unification provided the focus needed for the Lake Tahoe Basin, and more effective management of its watershed and ecological and recreational resources.

The Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit Forest Supervisor's Office is located at 35 College Drive, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150 - (530) 543-2600. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm.
